York Sports Village Takes Shape

Brambledown are continuing the construction of the New Sports Village in York on behalf of Sir Robert Mcalpine Construction. 

Brambledown Landscape Services Ltd Sports Division have just completed the installation of a synthetic sports pitch at the York Sports Village as part of the ongoing external works package which will also include 3 further five-a-side pitches. The 3g Artificial Football pitch includes a shockpad and astroturf of the latest generation.

 

York Sports Village is a new £9 million sports facility on the Heslington East campus expansion & will be open to the University of York students and staff, and the public. The first phase will feature a competition-standard eight lane 25 metre pool, learner pool, full size 3G Astroturf pitch and three further five-a-side pitches. The pitches and external works and landscaping are to be constructed by Brambledown. Indoor facilities include a 100-station computerised fitness suite, floor space for classes such as spinning and yoga; three specialist treatment rooms, sauna and steam rooms and a cafeteria.

York Sports Village 3g Artificial pitch installed by BrambledownThe University has worked with City of York Council to fund the project. The University is contributing £5 million and the Council is contributing £3 million, with the remainder being allocated through sporting grants.

The complex will be run by a limited liability partnership company called York Sports Village.

 

Any surpluses will be ring-fenced for re-investment in the facilities.

 

It is expected to create up

to 30 new jobs, both full and part-time.

 

 

A steering group will be established to provide feedback from York Sport Village users. The new complex will be sited next to Grimston Bar Park & Ride and will also be served by public transport.

This facility is in the final stages of development, between May and August 2012 the following finishing touches will take place:

 

  • Completion of render, tiling, soffit insulation and grouting
  • 2nd / final fix mechanical and electrical services
  • 2nd fix joinery
  • Internal glazed screens
  • Painting and decorating
  • Resin floor coverings
  • Suspended ceilings
  • Balustrades
  • Reception and Café fit out
  • Lockers and cubicles
  • Spectator seating
  • Pool furniture and balustrades
  • Soft and timber floor finishes
  • Filling pool tanks and commissioning the pool filtration systems
  • Power and heat on and commissioning the mechanical and electrical services
  • Snagging, preparation of operations and management manuals and cleaning
  • 3G Pitch work and completion of external works
