Wharton Park Durham

Brambledown Landscape Services Ltd have begun work at Wharton Park in Durham City, on behalf of Esh Construction, the Main Contractor responsible for the £3 million upgrade of the historic Park.

Wharton Park Durham has featured in the childhood of so many in Durham City and the surrounding areas. It offers fabulous, unrivalled views over the incredible Historic City of Durham. The views of Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle are spectacular.

Wharton Park was first opened to the public way back in 1858 and was the site of the first ever Durham Minors Gala in 1871. The project is funded partly by Durham County Council, and partly by the Heritage Lottery Fund Park Restoration scheme. This is one of several major multi million pound HLF funded regeneration schemes which Brambledown have been a part of. Others include; Barnes Park Sunderland, Walker Park Newcastle, Sheffield Botanical Gardens, Ropner Park Stockton and Herrington Country Park Sunderland.

Wharton Park is also a haven for Trainspotters with the famous viaduct clearly visible as the trains pull into Durham Station from the South.

The regeneration work being carried out at Wharton Park will create a Park way beyond its former glory. It will offer Sport and Play Facilities, carparking, walkways, sculptures, and a new visitor centre. Brambledown are responsible for the Soft Landscaping works at Wharton Park which include the planting of thousands of trees and shrubs, in a package approaching £80k.
