West Cornforth School County Durham

Brambledown Landscape Services Ltd have just received practical completion for the External Works carried out at the prestigious new West Cornforth School in Ferryhill County Durham.

Last Year, Councillors gave the go-ahead to plans to build a new village primary school on the site of the old West Cornforth School.

The current buildings at West Cornforth Primary School, near Ferryhill, date back to the 1920s.

Members of Durham County Council’s county planning committee granted planning permission for the school to be demolished and replaced with a new T-shaped facility.

The changes mean the school’s capacity increases from 150 pupils and 26 nursery children to 211 pupils and 26 nursery children.

Funding for the work was sourced from the Government’s Priority School Building Programme, and Sir Robert Mcalpine were the Main Contractors onsite. Brambledown carried out the majority of the external works, Hard Landscaping and Civils works encompassed within the project which was officially completed this week, on time. The external works carried out by Brambledown North East team included tarmac roads, block paving, fencing, pin kerb edging, raised planters, earthworks, cabling, disabled carparking bays, security gates and hand rails.

Councillors voted unanimously to grant planning consent for West Cornforth School in 2013.
